The Gap Between Perception and Reality

We’d all like to believe that our decisions, behavior and judgments are guided by rational thought. In reality, rationality takes work, and the brain is a busy place. To manage all of the information filtering in and out, it takes shortcuts when it can. Those shortcuts get us into trouble.

Those shortcuts, called cognitive biases, create a gap between perception.  And none of us are immune to them.  The best way to combat them is to understand them and learn how to identify them in those around us, but most of all in ourselves.
